Spiritual direction is a ministry of spiritual companionship that focuses on your relationship with God and your prayer life.
St. Ignatius wrote his Spiritual Exercises as a layman and Ignatian Spirituality belongs to everyone. As Ignatius did, through his spirituality, we come to find God in everything — our work, our play, our relationships, our successes, our failures, our desires, our heartbreaks and our loves. As we come to know God better, we learn more about ourselves and what we are called to be and do.
Spiritual Direction in the Ignatian Tradition involves listening with prayerful attention to where God is moving and at work in your life. A Spiritual Director helps you discern where God might be leading you in everyday decisions, or inviting you into deeper relationship.
Anyone and everyone can benefit from Spiritual Direction. However, people experiencing transitions in their lives or in their faith, those who want to deepen their prayer or their relationships with both God and with others may find it most helpful.
Just starting on your spiritual journey: Consider registering for St. Peter's Ignatian Spirituality program: Encountering the Living God The 8-week program gives you an opportunity to meet with a spiritual director who will help you grow in Ignatian awareness and notice where God is breaking through your life. There is no cost for the program. Learn more about the Encounter program
Seeking a spiritual director: Complete an interest form to request an introductory meeting. Our Spiritual Direction Coordinator will review the request and schedule an introductory meeting. The introductory meeting with a Spiritual Director, and with the Holy Spirit’s guidance, will help determine if the match is a good fit. Typically, a directee would meet once a month with a Spiritual Director. Any cost for ongoing meetings would be discussed with the individual director.
Our mission: United and enkindled by the graces of our Ignatian Spirituality, we journey with others who desire a deeper personal relationship with God.
Our Ignatian Spiritual Director Team is made up of members from our parish, with the guidance and participation of our Jesuit priests and pastor. St. Peter is blessed to have over 20 Spiritual Directors as parishioners and most serve on the Ignatian Spirituality Team.
Each Spiritual Director has completed a 2-4 year certified program in Ignatian Spiritual Direction Formation. Many of the Directors have also been trained in leading the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Every member of the team has completed 19th Annotation Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.
