The Earth and every living thing is a gift from God. We are grateful and called to respond with careful, diligent stewardship. As a Jesuit parish, Caring for our Common Home is one of the four Apostolic Preferences.

The St. Peter Care for Creation (CFC) Team was formed as our parish's response to the global climate crisis. We have offered classes on Laudato Si’ and implemented some of its teachings in our parish. We will continue to infuse its philosophy at St. Peter in the future.

Laudato Si’, an encyclical (letter) was released by Pope Francis in 2015 to all people, not Catholics or Christians alone.

The movie “The Letter” was released on the feast of St Francis of Assisi, October 4, 2022, showing the impact of humanity’s degradation of our common home as it affects others around the world; namely the poor, marginalized, and all of God’s creatures.

Laudate Deum was released by Pope Francis on the feast of St Francis in 2023. It is a sequel to Laudato Si’ and is meant for “all people of good will on the climate crisis.”

Season of Creation is Sept 1-Oct. 4. Pope Francis invited us to mark this important moment of the year as a time to recall our Gospel mission to care for creation. The season begins with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (Sept. 1) and runs through October 4, which is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology (Oct. 4).
