Everyday Discernment: An Ignatian Approach to Decision Making
AS OF SEPT. 2, 2025, REGISRATION IS NOW CLOSED. YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR THE WAITING LIST.
Join us for this 6-week program on Zoom Thursday, Sept. 11-Oct. 16, 2025 7:00 pm-8:15 pm
Ignatian discernment is the spiritual practice of bringing God into our decision making process. By noticing the movements within our heart and soul, identifying the thoughts, desires and emotions that motivate us, we learn to discern where God is leading us.
We offer a 6-week exploration of the Ignatian approach to decision making using What’s Your Decision, by J. Michael Sparough, Jim Manney, and Tim Hipskind. Participants gain an understanding of how to invite and listen for God in everyday decisions, while applying Ignatius’ rules of discernment to case studies and personal experiences. This program combines reading resources (book and workbook), group participation, a daily Examen prayer and the practice of holy listening.
From Loyola Press: Do you have an effective decision making process in place, one that you can consistently rely on to help you make good decisions? Most people don't, and as a result they are never quite certain if they have made the best choice, and if their final decision was truly a good decision.
In "What's Your Decision?," a fast-moving, personal, and highly practical book, the authors introduce readers to a time-tested Ignatian approach to effective decision making. Based on the insights of St. Ignatius, the book addresses common questions such as:
What's important and what's not when it comes to making decisions?
Can I ever trust my gut?
What do I really want?
Ultimately, "What's Your Decision?" helps us understand that a God decision always precedes a good decision: When we invite God—who cares deeply about what we do into the decision-making process, we find the freedom to make the best choice.
